November Is Adoption Awareness Month
Proclamation from the Fairfax County Board of SupervisorsWHEREAS, November is National Adoption Month, a month set aside each year to raise awareness about the adoption of children and youth from foster care; and WHEREAS, thanks to the nurturing and care of adoptive parents many young people have been able to reach their potential, spread their wings, and lead full happy lives; and WHEREAS, adoption thrives on hope and commitment, yet often originates from pain and loss. At different times adoption can create a void or fill a void. At all times, however, adoption means family and by definition family means connection; and WHEREAS, last year 35 children were adopted through the Fairfax County Department of Family Services; we are grateful to every family who have revealed the good heart of our community by opening their homes to children through adoption; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on behalf of all the residents of Fairfax County, does herby proclaim the month of November 2011 as Adoption Awareness Monthin Fairfax County, and urges all residents to support our children in any way they are able - whether by opening their hearts and homes through adoption, becoming foster parents, donating time to help children in need, or by supporting adoptive and foster parents in our community.
