Creating a More Aging-Friendly Community

Community pictures

Let’s work together to continue creating a vibrant,
active community where people want to stay as they grow older!

Fairfax County projects a dramatic increase in its older population. Between 2005 and 2030, the county expects the 50 and over population to increase by 40 percent and the 70 and over population by 88 percent.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, together with the Fairfax Area Commission on Aging (COA), have been working with the community to create the 2014 Fairfax 50+ Plan.  During the summer of 2013, over 800 people offered their ideas at forums held throughout the county.

Work teams composed of business and nonprofit representatives, community members and county staff:

  • reviewed the community's ideas; and
  • proposed initiatives for the Board of Supervisors' consideration.
