Navigating the Journey of Dementia
Wednesday, April 17, 12-1:45 p.m.
Join Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, as she addresses the differences between typical aging changes and changes due to dementia. She will also explore structural and functional brain changes that often occur with dementia. Learners will be introduced to physical and verbal techniques for improving care interactions and reducing the risk of distress. The session will also provide suggestions for stress reduction for care partners. The overall goal of the session is to improve awareness of positive ways to connect and interact throughout the journey of dementia. Register

Family Caregivers are Invited to Sign Up for the Virtual Social Visitor Program

The Virtual Social Visitor Program is provided by the Department of Family Services' Volunteer Solutions Program. Our vetted volunteers provide support through regular phone calls made to family caregivers, many of whom are or have been caregivers themselves. A few benefits from this program include:

  • Alleviation of loneliness/isolation.
  • Opportunity to chat with a volunteer about lighthearted topics as well as share journeys/stories.
  • Development of a supportive relationship with a volunteer.
  • Provision of an informal listening ear/sounding board.
