Caregiver Consultations

Need an in-depth conversation with a social worker about the caregiving needs of a loved one? ElderLink, a nonprofit partnership between Inova and the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging, offers free one-hour consultations. Call 703-324-5374, TTY 711, to request a Caregiver Consultation.

Caregiver Respite

Caregiver Respite allows family caregivers to take a well-deserved break. Call 703-324-7948, TTY 711 to discuss two county programs that provide up to six hours of respite monthly. Information and assistance is provided by calling 703-324-7948, TTY 711 or complete the Online Service Request Form.

ElderLink Respite Program
The ElderLink Respite Program is designed to give full-time, family caregivers a temporary break from caregiving duties.  This program offers up to 6 hours per week of in-home personal care services, companionship, and supervision for eligible clients. This service includes a full assessment and ongoing case management. Co-pay rates are dependent on the client’s functional status (physical/cognitive need) and income level. For more information or to request a service, please call the ElderLink Intake Line at: 703-324-5374, TTY 711. Virginia Lifespan Respite Voucher Program provides reimbursement vouchers to Virginia primary caregivers for the cost of temporary, short-term respite care provided to individuals, of any age, with a documented disability or medical condition. Family Caregivers Are Invited to Sign Up for the Virtual Social Visitor Program
The Virtual Social Visitor Program is provided by the Department of Family Services' Volunteer Solutions Program. Our vetted volunteers provide support through regular phone calls made to family caregivers, many of whom are or have been caregivers themselves. Benefits include:

  • Alleviation of loneliness/isolation.
  • Opportunity to talk with a volunteer about lighthearted topics as well as share journeys/stories.
  • Development of a supportive relationship with a volunteer.
  • Provision of an informal listening ear/sounding board.
