Community members wishing to serve should be knowledgeable about the constituency represented, have visibility into the needs and supports available in the communities for which they are appointed, and be able to work with to staff to help vision and reimagine how our service delivery system – directly and in partnership with other organizations – supports county residents.
People with lived experience bring invaluable insight and perspective to the development of social services programs. Their firsthand understanding of the challenges, barriers, and gaps within existing systems allows them to offer practical solutions and identify program elements that are truly responsive to the needs of the community. By centering the voices of those directly impacted, we can create social services that are more effective, equitable, and likely to achieve their intended goals. You are especially encouraged to apply if:
- You are currently living with or have lived with the issues a board or commission is focusing on, and can offer your perspective about the system as it is experienced by those who have received social services.
- You are not an active recipient of DFS “safety-related” services like Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services or the ADAPT (Anger & Domestic Abuse Prevention and Treatment program).
- If you were previously subject to a substantiated investigation / assessment / evaluation through adult protection or child protection services, then there should be at least two years since the case was closed.
- It’s okay if you are receiving public assistance benefits like SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, Child Care, General Relief, but
- Not currently employed by the Department of Family Services if interested in a DFS supported BAC.
