Early voting begins Friday, May 2, for the June 17, 2025, Democratic primary election in Fairfax County. Registered voters may cast their ballots in person at multiple locations across the county through Saturday, June 14.
This year’s primary in Fairfax County will determine the Democratic Party’s candidates for lieutenant governor and attorney general. There will be no Republican primary in Fairfax County, as there is no more than one GOP candidate for any office on the November ballot. Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity recently exited the Republican primary for lieutenant governor due to health reasons, leaving only one GOP candidate. In November, voters will cast ballots for these statewide offices, as well as governor, and seats in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Virginia operates an open primary system, meaning voters do not register by party and may choose to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary in a given election.
