Considering adding a new pet to your family? Come visit the Fairfax County Animal Shelter and meet adoptable dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, bunnies, guinea pigs, ferrets, gerbils, birds, snakes, and more! Take a tour of the different adoption areas of the shelter, talk with staff and volunteers about shelter programs and adoptable pets, and enjoy meeting our available animals who are waiting for their forever homes.

Did you know you can view all our available pets online? Our Petango page is updated in real time, so as soon as a pet is available for adoption they'll show up on the webpage. And, as soon as they're adopted, their photos and bio will disappear. You can view all our available dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more at the link below!

Curious about how to go about adopting a new pet from our shelter? It's pretty straightforward! It involves meeting with your prospective new pet, talking with our adoption counselors, and making sure you can check off the requirements. We do same-day adoptions!

Our adoption fees are structured based on species and age, and range from $5 (mice and other small animals) to $175 (puppies under six months of age).

Do you have a question about adopting a pet, such as what is included in the adoption fee? Visit our adoption FAQs page to see the most frequently asked adoption questions, and their answers.
