BizEX: Starting a Business Guide
Register Your Business in Virginia
Every business needs a legal structure. Examples include:
- Sole Proprietorship
- General Partnership
- Limited Partnership
- Limited Liability Company
- Corporation
- Non-Profit
Please consult with business advisors to determine which structure is in your best interest and register your business as appropriate with the State Corporation Commission (SCC). Free business counseling to discuss your particular needs is available through our entrepreneurship ecosystem partners; See Step 1: Plan and Research.
If your business operates under a trade name or a fictitious name, that name must be also registered with the SCC.
