Complaints of Alleged Police Misconduct

You may download and print a complaint form to submit in person, by email or mail. The same form is used by the police auditor and Police Civilian Review Panel.

Initial Complaint

Initial complaints of alleged police misconduct to the Office of the Independent Police Auditor may be made using the complaint form. Complaints will be investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department.

Investigation Review

Members of the public may request a review of an already completed Fairfax County Police Department Investigation into alleged misconduct using the complaint form.

Investigation Review Types

In cases of officer-involved shooting, in-custody death or use of force:

The Independent Police Auditor reviews the investigation for accuracy, completeness, thoroughness, objectivity and impartiality and will issue a public report of its findings.


In cases of alleged abuse of authority or serious misconduct:

The Police Civilian Review Panel reviews the investigation for accuracy, completeness, thoroughness, objectivity and impartiality and will issue a public report of its findings.

Reports

Reports will be made publicly available here, as they are created.

  • Annual reports are released by the Office of the Independent Police Auditor, advising the public on review status.
  • Individual reports are also produced for each review conducted by the Independent Police Auditor.
