Complaints of Excessive Force or Police Misconduct

You may download and print a form to submit a complaint regarding a use of force incident in person, by email, or mail. To submit a complaint/request for review of police misconduct, submit the form on the Police Civilian Review Panel website.

Complaint and Review Request Process

Complaints regarding use of force will be monitored or reviewed by the Independent Police Auditor.
Complaints and Review Requests regarding abuse of authority or serious misconduct will be processed by the Police Civilian Review Panel.

Filing a Complaint with the Auditor

Complaints regarding use of force by the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) can be submitted to the OIPA. Upon receipt, the Auditor will monitor or review the FCPD investigation into the complaint. Once completed, the FCPD will notify you of the results of the investigation and the Auditor will issue a public report with its findings

The Auditor automatically monitors and reviews FCPD internal investigations into use of force cases resulting in death or serious injury.

Complaints regarding abuse of authority or serious misconduct should be submitted to the Police Civilian Review Panel.
