Reston Community Heroes Art Contest

Questions and Answers

Children in pre-k through 8th grade can participate in this contest. There may be no help from adults with any part of the piece. However, parents are encouraged to fill out the entry form completely.

There is no entry fee.

Who is your community hero? Community Heroes are all around us. Show us who your community heroes are and what they do. Entries must be an image of a community hero, or heroes.

Artwork must be two-dimensional, on 8 x 10,10 x 13 or 11 x 14. Artwork should lay flat. All artwork will be framed for hanging and must fit into the frame.

Entries must be the original art. We will not accept photocopies or e-mailed entries.

Artwork must be properly labeled. A registration form must be completed for every entry. The form must accompany the piece of art and be filled out completely. It can be taped to the back of the artwork. Do not use glue or rubber cement.

PLEASE WRITE NEATLY or type the information so it is easily legible.

Entries must be received by October 6, 2020 October 17, 2020

Entries must be dropped off at the Reston District Police Station, no emailed entries accepted.

Contact the Reston District Police Station for any questions about drop off or to make special arrangements for groups of entries.

Limit one entry per person.

All entries with a legible email address will receive an emailed certificate of participation that may be printed out.

Entries will be used for display and become the property of the Reston District Police Station. It cannot be returned. This may include display in the Reston Police Station, the North County Governmental Building, Reston Hospital Center, and the Reston Community Center locations. By entering the contest, artists acknowledge that their entries will become the property of the Reston District Police Station and permit the art to be on public display.

Winners will receive an email notifying them they have won by the middle of October. A customized certificate will be emailed to every participate that provides an email address. Winners will be notified and presented with a certificate. We will make every effort to notify artists where their artwork will be on display.

All properly labeled entries will be judged by a panel of area artists.
Judges are looking for:

  • Innovative presentation
  • Unusual perspective or viewpoint
  • Use of the theme of the contest
  • Design elements that work together

Entrants will be separated into age categories as follows:

  • Pre-K - 1st Grade
  • 2nd grade - 5th grade
  • 6th grade - 8th grade>

 

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each age category will receive a customized and signed award certificate.

Each winner will be presented their certificate at the location where their winning art will be displayed.

Locations include the Reston District Police Station, Reston Community Center locations and the Reston Hospital Center.

Art can be dropped off the North County Governmental Building, Reston District Police Station 1801 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston, VA 20190. If a group has entries, please make arrangements with the Reston District Station for drop off.
