~Tree Commission began its duties in 1973~
FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va – It’s been a half century since the Fairfax County Tree Commission was chartered in Fairfax County. Its 15 members provide support and advisory duties to the Board of Supervisors related to the County’s urban forest conservation and preservation. It also sponsors the annual Friends of Trees Award Ceremony to recognize individuals or organizations for their outstanding efforts to preserve, protect and conserve trees.
In recognition of its many years of service, the County’s Urban Forest Management Division will host a celebration. The focal point of the event will be the ceremonial planting of the 50th tree of 50 installed to celebrate each year of the Tree Commission’s service.
