Active Transportation Project Prioritization for Funding

In an effort to fund safer pedestrian and bicycle facilities, the Board approved $100 million in new funding for one-time investments in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure through FY 2027.

Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) developed a prioritization process to select projects based on specific criteria that was used in the narrowing down of bicycle and pedestrian projects for a third round of funding and the process will be used in the future, along with input from the community, to select projects for funding.

For the most recent round of funding of projects FCDOT held two virtual community meetings to present how the current list of projects was developed and seek input from the community through an online survey. Although projects for this most recent round of funding have been selected and approved by the Board of Supervisors, view the presentation and watch the meeting recording to learn more about the prioritization process.
