Oh, the tomatoes, corn, eggplant and watermelon are at top notch taste right now at county farmers markets. If you’re a regular market shopper or have never stopped by one of our 11 locations, then now is the perfect time as crops from local farms hit their peak.
To celebrate the bounty of food at our markets, there are two upcoming events in August we invite you attend.
Join us as we celebrate the local farmers who bring fresh ingredients to our table during National Farmers Market Week from Aug. 3-13. Bring the whole family for games, a raffle, kids’ activities and other fun at Park Authority sponsored farmers markets.
You can enjoy cooking demos from the Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Master Food Volunteers at the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon, Herndon, Reston and Lorton markets. A gift basket will be raffled off at each of our markets that will include prizes from our vendors.
Our markets are strictly producer-only meaning that our vendors must grow or make from scratch everything they bring to market. This gives you the unique opportunity to ask farmers directly about their growing methods, animal welfare practices and more!
In addition to the cooking demos at select markets during farmers market week, visit a location to learn a new quick and easy farm-to-table recipe! The Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Master Food Volunteers will be presenting demonstrations on selected days, serving up quick and healthy recipes. Each demonstration will be connected with a mini-nutrition lesson to ensure customers understand the health benefits of each ingredient.
