CALL TO ORDER:

Commission Chair Gloria Crawford called the Wednesday, July 6, 2022, Commission Meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.

 

Approval of Agenda:  It was moved by Commissioner Shipman and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the July 6, 2022 Agenda be approved as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

Approval of Minutes:  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Bhinge that the May 18, 2022 Minutes be approved as presented.  The motion passed by majority vote, with Commissioners Conde and Malik abstaining.  

 

 

STAFF ISSUES:  Commissioner Crawford addressed the retirement of Margot Squires; she would like to present a Certificate of Appreciation from the Commission.  Commissioner Crawford will coordinate the Certificate with the office.  

 

 

COMMISSION BUSINESS

 

HRC # 2021067H – FIR:  It was moved by Commissioner Solon and seconded by Commissioner Malik that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Fairfax County Fair Housing Act has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

 

Vote on Commission Complaints:

 

It was moved by Commissioner Conde and seconded by Commissioner  Bell- Krasner to initiate the following complaints:

  • Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Dittmar Company (Edlandria), et al.
  • Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Dittmar Company (Cavalier Courts), et al.
  • Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Select Premium Properties, et al.
  • Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Southern Management, et al.

 

The Motion Passed by majority vote with Commissioner Ashby abstaining.

 

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNSCommissioner Bell-Krasner mentioned that the Fairfax County 220th Commission met regarding the 150th committee, he is still waiting for slides, but once he receives them, he will forward to the commissioners.  

 

 

PENDING BUISNESSCommissioner Crawford updated the Commission on community outreach with respect to working with Ken, Amanda, and Commissioner Hudson going forward.  They are working on programs and seminars to offer to the community and Commissioner Crawford will keep the Commissioners updated.
