CALL TO ORDER
Commission Chair Crawford called the Wednesday, May 5, 2021 Commission Meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.
Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Bell-Krasner that the May 5, 2021 Agenda be approved as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Conde that the April 21, 2021 Minutes be approved as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
STAFF ISSUES: There were no Staff Issues.
COMMISSION BUSINESS:
HRC# 2020010H - CONCILIATION: It was moved by Commissioner Solon and seconded by Commissioner Salinas that the Conciliation Agreement in this matter be accepted as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
HRC# 2016078E- APPEAL: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Conde that this matter be tabled until the office reschedules the appeal and provides sufficient notice of the date to the complainant. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
HRC# 2021015H - FIR: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Bell-Krasner that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Fair Housing Act has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
COMMUNITY CONCERNS: Outreach Event – Director Ken Saunders recognized Commissioner Hudson for his work with respect to outreach. Commissioner Hudson is putting together a series of listening sessions with the Board of Supervisors, which will include fifteen-minute meetings in which information about the mission and work of the Office of Human Rights and Equity Programs is provided. There is also consideration of additional sessions being added in the early summer for members of the community and providing these in different languages.
Commissioner Hudson informed the Commission that the Virginia Association for Human Rights (VAHR) annual meeting is scheduled for June 5th and he is not sure if the meeting will be held virtually or in person. The VAHR will host the State Attorney General and Commissioner Hudson will keep the Commission updated.
