CALL TO ORDER

Commission Chair Gloria Crawford called the Wednesday, November 6, 2019 Commission meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

Approval of AgendaIt was moved by Commissioner Hudson and seconded by Commissioner Shipman that the November 6, 2019 Agenda be approved as amended, by the addition of the Election of Officers.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

Approval of Minutes:  It was moved by Commissioner Shipman and seconded by Commissioner Alber that the August 7, 2019, Minutes be approved as amended.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

STAFF ISSUES:  Director Saunders informed the Commission on the September monthly report.  The Staff met the balance scorecard goals for the month.

 

COMMISSION BUSINESS:

 

HRC #2015123PA - Appeal.  It was moved by Commissioner Malik and seconded by Commissioner Alber that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP.  This motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Bhinge opposing and Commissioner Jimenez abstaining.

 

HRC# 2016066PA- Appeal.  It was moved by Commissioner Hudson and seconded by Commissioner Malik that this complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Human Rights Ordinance has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP.  This motion passed by majority vote with Commissioners Bhinge and Commissioner Jimenez abstaining.

 

HRC# 2019037H- Conciliation Agreement.  It was moved by Commissioner Alber and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the Conciliation Agreement in this matter be accepted as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2016048E - Conciliation Agreement. It was moved by Commissioner Malik and seconded by Commissioner Alber that the Conciliation Agreement in this matter be accepted as presented.  The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Hudson abstaining.

 

HRC# 2014086E - Public Hearing Recommendation.  It was moved by Commissioner Malik and seconded by Commissioner Hudson that a Public Hearing not be scheduled in the matter of Smith v. MV Transportation, Inc.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

HRC# 2017105E - Public Hearing Recommendation.  It was moved by Commissioner Malik and seconded by Commissioner Hudson that a Public Hearing not be scheduled in the matter of Battle v. Cintron Safe and Lock Company.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNS:  Commissioner Hudson informed the Commissioners about the annual VHAR Annual Conference, which will be held in Prince William County.  Prior to the Conference, Commissioner Hudson will try to reach out to EEOC and HUD for training; there will also be invitations to non-governmental groups to bring people together for unity rather than membership.

 

PENDING BUSINESS:  Commissioner Solon has agreed to serve on the Fair Housing Task Force.   

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Newly appointed Commissioner Andres Jimenez introduced himself to the Commissioners.

 

Election of Officers will be added to the Agenda for the November 20, 2019 meeting.
