CALL TO ORDER:

Commissioner Chair Crawford called the Wednesday, October 19, 2022 Commission Meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.

Approval of AgendaIt was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the October 19, 2022 Agenda be approved as presented.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.  

Approval of Minutes:  It was moved by Commissioner Hudson and seconded by Commissioner Conde that the September 21, 2022 Minutes be approved as amended.  The motion passed by majority vote with Commissioner Bhinge and Commissioner Shipman abstaining.  

 

STAFF ISSUESThere were no Staff Issues.

 

COMMISSION BUSINESSVote on Commission Complaints

 

The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. JRK Property Holdings:  It was moved by Commissioner Malik and seconded by Commissioner Shipman that the Commission approve that the initiated complaint be filed with OHREP in the matter of The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. JRK Property Holdings.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Kettler Management (Waterside Property):  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the Commission approve that the initiated complaint be filed with OHREP in the matter of The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Kettler Management (Waterside Property).  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. UDR (Arbor Park):  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the Commission approve that the initiated complaint be filed with OHREP in the matter of The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. UDR (Arbor Park).  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

 

The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Kettler Management:  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the Commission approve that the initiated complaint be filed with OHREP in the matter of The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. UDR (Arbor Park).  The motion passed by unanimous vote.

Kossow Management:  It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the Commission approve that the initiated complaint be filed with OHREP in the matter of The Fairfax County Human Rights Commission v. Kossow Management.  The motion passed by unanimous vote

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNS: Commissioner Crawford indicated that new outreach events will take place in October.  Amanda Schlener will send out the information to the Commissioners.

PENDING BUSINESSNone. 

 

NEW BUSINESS: Vote for Commission officers - Commissioners would like to nominate Commissioner Hudson and Commissioner Crawford for Chair.  The Election of Commission Chair will take place on Wednesday, November 16.  Commissioner Malik has been nominated for Vice Chair and Commissioner Conde has been nominated for Secretary.  The election of these two officers will take place on December 7.
