As of April 18, 2021, the Fairfax Health District is now in Phase 2.

People 12 years and older may receive a free COVID-19 vaccine. Appointments are available at Fairfax County Health Department clinics. Find out more about making an appointment.

 

The information below is available for reference only. 

 

Phase 1 Eligibility

Health care personnel and long-term care facility residents and staff who live or work in the Fairfax Health District* are currently eligible to register. 

Health care personnel includes:

  • Primary caregivers of persons with chronic medical conditions or intellectual or developmental disabilities requiring a high level of daily care
  • The following health care workers: 
    • Dental assistant, hygienist or dentist
    • EMT or a first responder serving as an EMT extender
    • Environmental services worker
    • Healthcare trainee or volunteer
    • Home health worker
    • Infection control and quality assurance professional
    • Laboratorian
    • Mortician/funeral home staff
    • Nurse, nursing assistant or nurse practitioner 
    • Optometrist
    • Personal care aide
    • Pharmacist, pharmacy tech or pharmacy workers
    • Physician or physician assistant
    • Public-facing public health worker
    • Radiological or other diagnostic/therapeutic tech
    • Respiratory, physical, speech or occupational therapist
  • The following human services employees that provide in-person services to clients or the public: 
    • Community health workers
    • Social workers
    • Case managers or case workers
    • Crisis counselors
    • Foster care managers
    • Adult protective services personnel
    • Child protective services personnel
    • Domestic violence counselors
    • Human trafficking prevention and recover personnel
    • Behavioral specialists
    • Substance abuse-related counselors.

Long-term care facility residents and staff include:

  • Skilled nursing facilities
  • Assisted living facility
  • Homes for the aged
  • Intellectual and developmental disabilities residential centers
  • Group homes
  • State Veterans homes
  • Family care homes

*The Fairfax Health District includes Fairfax County, the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church, and the towns of Herndon and Vienna.

As of March 30, 2020, the following 1b groups are currently eligible for vaccination:

  • Adults 65+ who live in the Fairfax Health District*
  • People ages 16-64 with a high-risk medical condition or disability that increases or may increase their risk of severe illness from COVID-19 who live in the Fairfax Health District*
  • People who live in correctional facilities, homeless shelters and migrant labor camps
  • The following Frontline Essential Worker Priority Groups who live or work in the Fairfax Health District*
    1. Police, Fire, and Hazmat 
    2. Corrections and Homeless Shelter Workers
    3. Childcare/K-12 Teachers or Staff, including staff serving public and private schools, licensed center-based childcare staff and licensed home-based childcare staff
    4. Food and Agriculture (including Veterinarians) 
      Includes: Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting; Beverage manufacturing (does not refer to public serving such as breweries); Food manufacturing (does not refer to public serving such as restaurants); Nursery, garden center and farm supply stores; Veterinary services; ABC workers; Alcoholic beverage producers; Butcher and slaughterhouse workers; Food banks, food pantries and food distribution sites; Wholesale producers of meat, vegetables and foods 
    5. Manufacturing 
      Includes: Asphalt paving, roofing and saturated materials manufacturing; Chemical manufacturing; Computer and electronic manufacturing; Electrical equipment, appliance and component manufacturing; Fabricated metal product manufacturing; Industry machinery manufacturing; Medical equipment and supplies manufacturing; Nonmetallic mineral product manufacturing; Other miscellaneous manufacturing; Other petroleum and coal products manufacturing; Paper manufacturing; Petroleum manufacturing; Plastics and rubber product manufacturing; Primary metal manufacturing; Transportation equipment manufacturing; Wood kitchen cabinet and countertop manufacturing 
    6. Grocery Store Workers 
      Includes: Food and beverage stores; General merchandise stores, including warehouse clubs and supercenters; Convenience store workers; Farmers market vendor (if selling food); Grocery shopping services; Retail stores that sell food and other products
    7. Public Transit Workers
      Includes: Interurban and rural bus transportation; School and employee bus transportation; Special needs transportation; Urban transit systems; Bus drivers; Rideshare drivers
      Does NOT include: Airline workers, such as pilots, flight crews and ground crews.
    8. Mail Carriers (USPS and Private)
      Includes: United States Postal Service carriers; private companies, such as Amazon, UPS, FedEx, etc.
    9. Officials Needed to Maintain Continuity of Government 
      Includes the following federal, state and local government employees that live or work in the Fairfax Health District:
      • Boards, Authorities and Commissions 
      • Government employees (full- and part-time)
      • Government contractors working in sectors essential to the continuity of government
      • Judicial employees (commonwealth’s attorneys, court personnel, judges)
      • This group also includes: criminal history record specialists, DMV workers (public facing), election and poll workers, K12 school training providers, law enforcement accreditation coordinators, law enforcement field services training coordinators, law enforcement training providers
    10. Clergy/Faith Leaders
      • Includes: Apostles, Bishops, Cardinals, Clergy members, Imams, Ministers, Nuns, Pastors, Priests, Pujaris, Rabbis
    11. Janitorial/Cleaning Staff

  • Water, Wastewater, Waste Removal
    Includes: Administration of air and water resource and solid waste management programs; Plumbers; Recycling removal workers; Water and utility workers
  • Housing and Construction
    Includes: Administration of housing programs; Architectural, engineering, and related services; Community housing services; Construction of buildings; Electricians; Hardware stores and similar retail stores; House painters; Housing construction; Housing and real estate services; Hotel and motel staff (traveler accommodations); HVAC technicians; Interior design services; Real estate; Specialty trade contractors
  • Food Service
    Includes: Community food service; Restaurants and other eating places (servers and back of house); Special food services
  • Transportation and Logistics
    Includes: Air traffic controllers; Airline ground crews; Airline personnel; Airline pilots; Automotive driving schools; Automotive equipment rental and leasing; Automotive repair and maintenance; Car retail and repair; Charter bus industry; Commercial air, rail and water transportation equipment rental and leasing; Couriers and messengers; Electronic shopping and mail-order houses; Flight crews; Graphic design services; Maritime; Merchant wholesalers, durable and nondurable goods; Motor vehicle and parts dealers; Packaging and labeling services; Printing and related support activities; Private mail centers; Process, physical distribution, and logistics consulting services; Rail transportation; Road construction industry; Shipyard; Support activities for transportation; Taxi and limousine service; Transit and ground passenger transportation; Truck transportation; TSA employees; Warehouse and storage; Water transportation; Welcome Center
  • Institutions of Higher Education Faculty/Staff
    Includes: Faculty and staff at institutions of higher education
  • Finance
    Includes: Accounting; Bookkeeping; Credit bureaus; Credit intermediation; Funds, trusts and other financial vehicles; Insurance carriers; Management of companies and enterprises; Monetary authorities; Payroll services; Securities, commodity contracts, and other financial investments; Tax preparation
  • Information Technology and Communication
    Includes: Communication equipment repair and maintenance; Computer and office machine repair and maintenance; Computer systems design; Consumer electronics repair and maintenance; Data center operators; Data processing, hosting, and related services; Infrastructure construction or restoration; Internet publishing and broadcasting and web search portals; Internet and cell phone technicians; Software publishers; Telecommunications
  • Media
    Includes: Broadcasting (except Internet); News dealers and newsstands; News syndicates; Newspaper publishers; Periodical publishers
  • Legal Services
    Includes: Court reporting and stenotype service; Courts; Judicial system operations support staff; Lawyers and others providing legal services; Parole offices and probation offices; 
  • Public Safety (Engineers)
    Includes: Construction, mining, and forestry machinery and equipment rental and leasing; Emergency communication centers; Engineers; Heavy and civil engineering construction; Waste management and remediation services; 
  • Other Public Health Workers
    Includes: Administration of public health programs; Research and development in the physical, engineering, and life sciences; Telemarketing bureaus and other contact centers
  • Barbers, Stylists, Hairdressers

Please note:

  • We expect to move into Phase 2 by April 18 in accordance with federal and state goals for the COVID-19 vaccination rollout.  
  • Employees should be prepared to show some form of work-related identification or paystub as the vaccine appointment could be offered by one of our vaccine partners that may require ID.
