Lending a Helping Hand

(Posted 2021 July)

This year, Volunteer Solutions' Helping Hands program focused on outdoor spaces. Dedicated volunteers worked hard to clean up and transform older adults' yards. From trimming bushes to pulling vines, volunteers added curb appeal and improved the quality of life for residents who can now more easily access and enjoy their space. Even a mail carrier stopped to praise one group of volunteers for clearing an area to the mailbox that was previously covered in tall grasses and brush.

Although yard work can be labor intensive, all of the weeding, raking, mowing, leaf-blowing, clearing and hauling is greatly appreciated by the Helping Hands program participants, all of whom wish to remain in their own home. It's uplifting to see volunteers giving their time and a great deal of energy on behalf of people they've never met before. To all of our Helping Hands volunteers, thank you!
