Fairfax County is upgrading its tax systems to make the process easier for residents to view, manage and pay taxes. This multiyear modernization effort will improve digital tools and payment options, focusing on convenience, speed and reliability.

New Payment Options

Residents now have access to several modern payment methods:

  • Tap-to-pay with credit cards and Apple Pay
  • Debit card payments with PIN entry
  • Online scheduling of tax payments

Real-Time Account Access

Through the updated MyFairfax portal, residents can now:

  • View current and past tax bills
  • Access real-time account balances
  • Track payments as they are processed
  • Easier authentication with Google Services and PassKey

This means less paperwork and fewer in-person visits, as well as greater peace of mind when paying taxes.

Faster Online and Phone Transactions

Recent technology upgrades have significantly reduced wait times for online tax services.

  • Average online transaction time has dropped by up to 70% during normal usage, and 100% during peak usage
  • Turnaround time for counter operations has significantly decreased
  • Customer service staff have faster systems to assist you
  • New customer relationship tools are helping streamline support
  • Modernized call center for quicker response times and transactions

What’s Coming Next

Fairfax County is continuing improvements:

  • Self-service kiosks for paying by cash, card or check
  • Full digitization of paper records for easier access
  • A new business tax portal for online filing
  • Cashless apps for ease of payment

Why It Matters

This modernization project is designed to reduce stress and save time for county residents. Whether you're paying your car tax, appealing a real estate assessment or simply checking your balance, the process is now faster, more flexible and easier to use.
