Election Day Voting — Tuesday, June 17

Ready to vote in the Democratic primary? Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17. You’ll need to go to the polling place for the precinct where you live, even if you plan to register that day. As long as you’re in line by 7 p.m., you’ll be able to vote.

Not sure where to go? Check here before you head out:

Same-Day Registration

Not registered yet? You can still vote. Virginia allows same-day registration during early voting and on Election Day. Head to the polling place where you live, register and cast a provisional ballot.

Bring a valid photo ID if you have one, or you can fill out an ID confirmation form and still cast a regular ballot.

Here are examples of what’s accepted:

  • Virginia driver’s license (even expired)
  • U.S. passport
  • Utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or a government document with your name and current address

Voting Services and Accessibility

Need help voting from your car? You can use curbside voting if you’re 65 or older or have a physical disability. Just pull into a designated curbside parking space and call the number on the sign.

All polling places have accessible ballot marking machines in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Korean. You can also bring someone to help you vote — just let the election officers know, then your assistant will complete a form.

Returning Your Mail Ballot

Still holding onto your mail-in ballot? You’ve got a few options to make sure it’s counted:

  • Drop it off at any polling place on June 17 during voting hours (6 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • Use the 24/7 drop box outside the Fairfax County Government Center before 7 p.m.
  • If you’re mailing it, make sure it’s postmarked by June 17 and received by noon on June 20

Don’t forget to sign the envelope and include your birth year and the last four digits of your Social Security number on the return flap. This info is not publicly visible. You can track your ballot at ballot.elections.virginia.gov

What’s on the Ballot

There is no Republican primary in Fairfax County this year. The Democratic primary includes:

  • Lieutenant governor
  • Attorney general

Virginia has an open primary system. Voters don't register by party and can vote in either party's primary (but not both).

Election Security — Safeguarding Your Vote

Fairfax County takes election security seriously — and has strong protections in place to make sure every eligible vote is counted.

Here’s how your vote stays safe:

  • All voting machines are tested, sealed and secured before every election and are never connected to the internet
  • Ballots and drop boxes are monitored and secured under chain of custody
  • After the election, we verify results through audits and canvassing
