Early voting for the April 21 proposed constitutional amendment special election continues, with voting expanding to 13 additional locations across Fairfax County tomorrow, Saturday, April 11. Days and hours are as follows:
- Fairfax County Government Center: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Monday–Friday); 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays, April 11 and 18.
- Satellite locations including 13 new sites and the Mt. Vernon and North County Governmental Centers: 1 to 7 p.m. (Monday–Friday); 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays, April 11 and 18.
All locations are closed on Sundays.
Voters are also reminded that the 2026 congressional primary has been rescheduled from June to August.
April 21 Constitutional Amendment Special Election
Early in-person voting begins Friday, March 6, for the statewide special election on a proposed amendment to the Constitution of Virginia.
The ballot question reads:
“Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia's standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”
All registered Fairfax County voters are eligible to participate in this election.
Key dates and deadlines:
- Early in-person voting: Friday, March 6 through Saturday, April 18
- Deadline to apply for a mail ballot: Friday, April 10
- Deadline to register to vote: Tuesday, April 14
- Election Day: Tuesday, April 21
Early voting locations and hours Friday, March 6, to Saturday, April 18:
- Fairfax County Government Center, Room 251
Weekdays: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Saturdays: April 11 and 18, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Mount Vernon Governmental Center (Alexandria) and North County Governmental Center (Reston)
Weekdays: 1-7 p.m.
Saturdays: April 11 and 18, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Residents may register online, by mail or in person. Registration applications must be received by Tuesday, April 14 to vote in this election. Voters who wish to cast a ballot by mail must submit an absentee ballot application by Friday, April 10. Completed mail ballots must be returned by noon on Friday, April 24 to be counted.
Polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, April 21. Sample ballots, registration information and a list of acceptable forms of identification are available at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/elections
June Primary Rescheduled to Aug. 4
Looking ahead, voters should note a change to this year’s primary election schedule.
The General Assembly moved the 2026 congressional primary election to Tuesday, Aug. 4. The primary election is typically held in June.
