Fairfax County is a vibrant and diverse community where more than 35% of households speak a language other than English at home, and over 180 home languages are spoken. The Language Access program was created to ensure all residents can access information, programs and services, regardless of the language they speak.
Expanding Access to our Spanish and Korean Communities
The Language Access team offers in-house translation services to county departments and agencies for communications in the two most-spoken languages in the County aside from English: Spanish and Korean.
It also actively engages with these key communities via social media and email newsletters:
- Spanish Facebook
- Korean Facebook
- Korean Instagram
- NotiCentro (Spanish Newsletter)
These platforms help strengthen community engagement with resident's who may feel more comfortable communicating in their native language.
Interview with the Program Director
Katie Han, the Director of the County’s Language Access Program, explains how the program works to expand equitable access to information and services in our community.
