Turkeycock Creek at Brookside Office Park Stream Restoration

Project Number: SD-000031-242

Project Update: April 11, 2024

Construction is on temporary hold. Updates will be provided as they develop.

Turkeycock BrooksideProject Background

This project was identified when management from an adjacent property expressed concerns to the county about a steep and unstable streambank from erosive stream conditions. In November 2019, staff from the Stormwater Planning Division initiated the design of the project.

Project Description

Downstream and south of the Little River Turnpike Service Road, Turkeycock Creek is continuing to erode the eastern streambank adjacent to the Brookside Office Park Complex. This project will address the unvegetated, nearly vertical bank with the installation of a soldier pile and lagging retaining wall to prevent further erosion. The project also includes approximately 300 linear feet of stream restoration.

Construction is on temporary hold. Updates will be provided as they develop.

What to Expect

Contractors, county staff, and site inspectors will be at the project site on foot and wearing high-visibility clothing. Construction vehicles will access the project site from Little River Turnpike and Chowan Avenue. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, with work beginning after 7:00 a.m. Please note that at some periods during construction, work may occur on weekends. Construction activities on weekends will occur after 9:00 a.m. These start times are in accordance with the Fairfax County Noise Ordinance.

Project Cost and Funding Source

Construction funding in the amount of $1,216,150.00 has been encumbered for Fiscal Year 2024. Stormwater projects are funded through the county Stormwater Service District.
