FY 2022 Fairfax County Sustainability Initiatives Report Now Available

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop with information about all the sustainability work taking place within Fairfax County, look no further than the FY 2022 Fairfax County Sustainability Initiatives report (FCSI). Published on February 15, 2022, the report offers an overview of county policies, ordinances, plans, programs, and other activities related to sustainability.

Within the report you’ll find background information on county governance and detailed updates on county efforts in support of the Board’s Environmental Vision, the Operational Energy Strategy, the Carbon Neutral Counties Declaration, and more. The FCSI focuses on work being done to improve the sustainability of county operations, but also describes county plans and initiatives that pertain to sustainability within our community.

The FCSI is the most comprehensive document available covering the county’s environmental, climate, energy, and related work. The report contents range from air quality to zoning, and everything in between. Major topics within the report include:

  • Growth and Land Use
  • Air Quality and Transportation
  • Water
  • Solid Waste Management
  • Parks and Ecological Resources/p>
  • Climate and Energy
  • Environmental Stewardship and Outreach
  • Environmental Health
  • Building Design and Construction
  • Procurement and Material Management
  • Facilities and Site Management
  • Information Technology
  • Waste Management
  • Vehicle Services

Historically, the report has been developed on an annual basis with the Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination taking the lead and numerous county agencies and departments contributing information for inclusion. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the report was not produced in FY 2021.
