Raise Your Voice to Tell the NVTA to Fund Our Richmond Highway Projects

Richmond Highway Funding in Jeopardy!
Here's How You Can Help!

COMMUNITY CALL TO ACTION!

We need your help to tell the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) to fund our Richmond Highway projects! Join us and add your voice tomorrow, Wednesday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Governmental Center.

Three projects in the Mount Vernon District are being considered for NVTA funding. NVTA is considering the County’s requests for $250 million for the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and $127 million for the Richmond Highway widening project. Additionally, NVTA is considering the County’s request for $12 million to match Virginia Deparment of Transportation (VDOT) and Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) funds to replace the Richmond Highway underpass below the CSX Railroad in Lorton. These projects are important to helping bring the recently-adopted Embark Comprehensive Plan Amendment to life.

As you may know, the new Metro funding has diverted $102 million, or approximately one-third of NVTA's annual revenues, from NVTA to Metro. This has put the Richmond Highway project funding at risk. Add your voice to ensure NVTA knows these projects are important to our community!

The County, in conjunction with the NVTA, is hosting two public meetings for residents to provide testimony about why these projects matter. The meetings are:

Wednesday, May 9 at 7 pm at the Mount Vernon Government Center, 2511 Parkers Lane
Thursday, May 17 at 7 pm at the Main Government Center, 12000 Government Center Pkwy

Can't make either public meeting? Here are other ways to make your voice heard. Every voice matters!

  1. Submit your comments online here.
  2. Email your comments to SYPcomment@TheNoVaAuthority.org.
  3. Send a letter to the NVTA at 3040 Williams Drive, Suite 200, Fairfax, VA, 22031.
