Camp Highlights and Options
The Reston Community Center offers several distinct camp programs to meet different interests and age groups. Camp Good Times on the Road takes kids on daily field trips throughout the region.
“We go as far as Pennsylvania sometimes,” Morgan notes. “The kids get to go to the zoo, the air and space museum. We’ve been to Diggerland in New Jersey, which is a really cool construction-themed amusement park.”
Every Friday features a trip to a water park to keep things fun and local.
For teens, Road Rulz provides similar adventure-based experiences. This program, which inspired Camp Good Times on the Road, takes teens to exciting destinations like Kings Dominion, Six Flags and various water parks. Morgan explains that it’s “a great time for them to pal around, join their friends, meet new friends, connect with counselors that they might find as good role models.”
The Young Actors Theatre program runs year-round with special five-week summer sessions. Participants go through auditions, learn blocking and choreography, and put on a full performance. The program welcomes both experienced performers and newcomers, and many alumni have continued their theater involvement through high school and college.
The Lake Anne Art Rave for Kids program runs biweekly at Reston Community Center's Lake Anne facility. Each two-week session of classes incorporates lessons in music, ceramics, painting, drawing and much more.
Additionally, the Reston Community Center offers about 70 different specialty camps covering a wide range of interests, including:
- Cooking camps for various age groups
- Woodworking workshops
- Mosaic art classes
- Rock climbing for teens
- Many other hands-on activities and learning experiences
Parents can mix and match morning and afternoon specialty camps to create full-day experiences, with staff helping them transition between activities.
Important Details for Parents

The staff-to-camper ratio stays between 8:1 and 10:1, following Fairfax County Public Schools guidelines. While lunch and snacks aren’t included due to allergy concerns, every camp includes breaks for eating, and parents should pack accordingly.
