Background

The formation of the Fairfax County 250th Commission follows the Virginia General Assembly's establishment of the American Revolution 250th Commission to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the independence of the United States.

The Board of Supervisors, recognizing the significance of this milestone, formed a dedicated workgroup led by Gunston Hall and comprising representatives from key local institutions and community organizations. This workgroup has laid the groundwork for the formation of the Fairfax County 250th Commission, tasked with leading the county's commemorative efforts.
