This year's primary election is on Tuesday, Aug. 4 following changes to Virginia's election calendar that moved this primary election from June to August.
Primary contests vary depending on where you live. Democratic voters in the 8th Congressional District will vote in a U.S. House primary. Republican voters in the 8th, 10th and 11th Congressional Districts will vote in a U.S. Senate primary, and Republican voters in the 10th Congressional District will also vote in a U.S. House primary. Voters are encouraged to review their sample ballot before voting.
Virginia voters do not register by party affiliation. Voters may choose to participate in either the Democratic or Republican primary, but may only vote in one.
