Don’t miss a chance to have a say in the future of the Fairfax Center Area! Running through Friday, July 26, a new survey is an important way for residents to be part of the Fairfax Center Area Planning Study and the visioning process for the county’s Government Center.
The Fairfax Center Area Study is a multi-phase project that aims to update the long-range land use plan for this critical region. Covering approximately 5,500 acres between Route 50 and Route 29, the area includes major landmarks like Fair Oaks Mall and a mix of commercial and residential developments.
Having completed Phases I and II, the county is now embarking on Phase III. This phase, reauthorized by the Board of Supervisors on April 11, 2023, will refine recommendations for the core area, focusing on creating a mixed-use, walkable and vibrant community. It will include a transportation analysis and consider updates to accommodate existing and future developments.
Community feedback is crucial to create a thriving, inclusive and well-planned Fairfax Center Area. All who live, work, shop, recreate or do business in the Fairfax Center area are encouraged to share their thoughts through the online survey. The responses will help the study’s Task Force form recommendations for how the area can evolve in the years to come.
The Government Center visioning process is another critical component under review. Developed nearly 40 years ago, the Government Center’s role and its surrounding area are being re-evaluated in light of modern needs and policies, including the Countywide Strategic Plan and the One Fairfax equity policy.
