Family Child Care Business Workshops

The following business workshops provide information to family child care providers just beginning their businesses as well as established providers looking for more training opportunities. These training hours are creditable toward Fairfax County Home Child Care Permit requirements. Please call 703-324-8100 for more information.

Through the Eyes of a School Ager: The Value of Programming, Environment, and Social Interactions

In this four-hour course participants will focus on programming, environment, and social interactions for school-age children. Through play, children learn about the world, themselves, and develop skills for life-long success. The environment provides a safe space for them to relax, the ability to explore and create and a place for a child's creativity, Social interactions allow children to build relationships, create a sense of belonging and solve problems. Join us and explore your childcare center through the eyes of a school ager. Providers must attend both sessions to receive training credit.

Desarrollo del habla y el lenguaje al nacer - 36 meses

Esta presentación resumirá el desarrollo típico del lenguaje entre las edades de nacimiento y los 36 meses. Supporting Resiliency in Family Child Care

The pandemic has been stressful for family child care providers, the children in care and their families. In this two-hour interactive webinar, early childhood professionals will explore how to develop and build personal resiliency skills and self-care strategies in order to be their best selves every day. Participants will also explore ways they can enhance children’s resiliency. Participants will hear about a variety of resources to help support children’s resiliency as they develop skills to successfully manage challenges in the future.

Speech and Language Development from Birth to 36 months

This presentation will summarize typical language development between the ages of birth to 36 months. Participants will demonstrate understanding of the development of vocabulary and speech sound development, as well as addressing “hot topics” in the field of language development including bilingual language development and early signs of possible Autism Spectrum Disorder. Resources for early childhood professionals and families will be provided, and practical strategies that can be used in daily childcare activities and routines will be discussed.

Legal & Tax Considerations when Forming an In-Home Childcare

There are legal and tax implications to the type of corporation you form and steps to take to properly register a business. We bring the expertise of an attorney and accountant to help you understand the registering process and which corporate entity to consider your in-home childcare business. You will learn: 1) steps for registering a business (locality, state and federal). 2) Considerations for determining entity type for childcare. 3) Legal implications of entity types. 4) Tax implications of entity types.
