Safety and Security (SS)

Fairfax County is a place where all people feel safe at home, school, work and in the community.

To meet the diverse needs of all residents, Fairfax County must ensure a comprehensive, equitable, and inclusive approach to public safety and justice. Building a safe community is more than reducing and preventing injury and crime, it is about investing in strong, vibrant, and engaged communities where all people are protected and supported to live lives to their fullest potential.

Residents, employees, and businesses want a community where people can go about their daily lives without fear or risk of harm. The responsibility to ensure a safe and secure place where all people can thrive is shared across multiple county departments and must also include the full participation of the entire Fairfax County community.

Outcome Area Highlights

The SS highlights below were pulled from the 2025 Annual Report and identify significant progress made to support this area in calendar year 2024. Each highlight is categorized under the relevant Indicator of Community Success, demonstrating our dedication to this area.

Each of the ten community outcome areas will have its own dashboard that highlights headline metrics. These metrics will inform and guide community leaders, practitioners and advocates in making data driven decisions. To help the community better understand and navigate the dashboard, a tutorial video has been created using Healthy Communities as an example.

The interactive dashboard below provides an overview of the eight headline metrics for Safety and Security and enables the reader to access more detailed data and a narrative for context and clarity. Headline metrics for the remaining outcome areas are in progress. Data will be reviewed regularly to assess trends, inequities, and alignment with the strategies included in the plan.
