Student Artists Honored in Sustain Fairfax Earth Month Youth Art Contest

Fairfax County’s Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination is proud to announce the winners of the 2026 Sustain Fairfax Earth Month Youth Art Contest, celebrating student creativity and real-world climate action.

This year’s awardees are:

  • Shivani, Grade 5 – Winner
  • Angelina, Grade 11 – Winner
  • Arya, Grade 5 – Honorable Mention
  • Arianna, Grade 5 – Honorable Mention

Last names and school affiliations are not being published in order to protect student privacy.

Each student created original artwork reflecting the theme “My Actions, Our Climate,” highlighting climate-friendly steps they are taking—such as using clean energy, choosing sustainable transportation, reducing waste, or planting trees—and the positive impacts those actions have on our environment and community.

The contest encouraged students to connect their art to the Sustain Fairfax Challenge, an online platform where residents track and share their climate actions.

OEEC congratulates the winners and thanks every student who participated for showing how individual actions can add up to meaningful climate progress in Fairfax County.

About the Youth Art Contest

Fairfax County’s Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination (OEEC) invites students to showcase how they are taking action for our planet in the Sustain Fairfax Earth Month Youth Art Contest. Students are encouraged to submit original artwork supporting the theme “My Action, Our Climate”, highlighting climate actions they complete and the impacts of those actions, as noted on the Sustain Fairfax Challenge.

This contest was open to youth who attend school and live in Fairfax County in grades 4-12. The contest had three categories:

  • Grade levels 4-6
  • Grade levels 7-8
  • Grade levels 9-12

One winner from each category will be selected and will receive a $25 gift card and signed certificate. There may be one honorable mention winner from any of the categories that would receive the same prize.

The winning selections will be used in OEEC's marketing and promotional efforts and may be included on social media posts, flyers, giveaways, articles, etc. or physically displayed. The designs may also be displayed at a future environmental awards ceremony.
