Joint Board of Supervisors and School Board School Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Task Force

On Sept. 15, 2026, Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay, Vice Chair Kathy L. Smith and Supervisor James N. Bierman, Jr. proposed the establishment of a Joint Task Force to address pedestrian and traffic safety in Fairfax County school zones.

Purpose:

Develop coordinated short-term and long-term strategies to improve safety for students traveling to and from school
Create consistent, replicable processes and procedures that are collaborative, transparent and sustainable for evaluating and responding to school-zone safety concerns
