The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) wants to your input on improving the Fairfax Connector bus network to accommodate the arrival of the Metrorail Silver Line in the Reston-Herndon area to three new Metrorail stations: Reston Town Center, Herndon, and Innovation Center. Based on resident and stakeholder feedback and technical analysis, FCDOT has developed alternatives
We invite you to continue to provide input through this survey. Below you will find three bus transit service alternatives, each with their own set of unique characteristics to accommodate new Silver Line service:
- Alternative 1- Existing Service Plus is most like current Fairfax Connector service. Most routes serving Metrorail would remain oriented to Wiehle-Reston East station. This alternative builds on recommendations from Fairfax Connector’s most recent Transit Development Plan (TDP). In addition, the RIBS system would be unchanged. Through this alternative, you'd get new connections to the west side of Herndon/Crestview Drive, Centreville, Chantilly, and Fair Lakes.
- Alternative 2 - Streamlined Service would simplify current service. Some route numbers that currently run only during busy periods would be combined with similar route iterations that only run during non-busy periods to make the system easier to understand. Many routes would serve new Metrorail stations, and there would be some small changes to the RIBS system, including new bi-directional service. You'd also get frequent service all day along the Elden Street Corridor, and new connections to Sterling Plaza, Northern Virginia Community College (Sterling), Chantilly, Fair Lakes, and George Mason University.
- Alternative 3 - Transformation envisions brand new service in Reston and Herndon, including all-day service from a series of local routes, and "peak" (busy period) service to Metrorail stations via feeder routes. The RIBS system would remain as it is today. You'd get new connections to Sterling Plaza, Tysons Corner Center, Centreville, and George Mason University.
