Fairfax Connector Service Updates Due to Union Work Stoppage

(Update 3/6 at 6:30 p.m.) Fairfax Connector is delighted to announce the resumption of service, effective Friday, March 8th, 2024, following successful labor negotiations between Transdev and ATU Local 689. We extend our sincerest apologies to the average daily 26,000 customers who were inconvenienced during this period of negotiation.

In his statement, Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay remarked, "We’re pleased that Fairfax Connector service is expected to resume soon for the system’s 26,000 customers, on a contract agreement between the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 689 and Transdev. Last week I requested the assistance of a federal mediator to help resolve the impasse between Transdev and the ATU. The mutually agreeable solution that resulted from this effort not only respects the exemplary work of the system's drivers and mechanics but ensures that we are moving forward in a fiscally responsible and sustainable manner that benefits our residents."

Fairfax Connector remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services to the residents and visitors of Fairfax County. Our management teams and staff have been preparing to restore full bus service as soon as possible after approval of the new contract. Due to a job action and work stoppage taken by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 689, which represents Fairfax Connector drivers and mechanics, Fairfax Connector Service was suspended at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024. We encourage our users to please use alternative methods of travel. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Passengers affected may want to consider alternate ways to travel, such as carpooling, taking Metrobus, Metrorail, or Virginia Railway Express (VRE) service, biking, walking, and teleworking. There are more than 4,000 available parking spaces at park-and-ride facilities across Fairfax County with access to express lanes, VRE and ridesharing.
