Volunteer & Partner Services has a new supervisor! Samantha “Sam” Carrico, LCSW, stepped into the role vacated by Krissa Slone when she retired in November and hit the ground running in support of our Adopt-A-Child Holiday Program. Working with children and families has been a constant throughout Carrico’s career.
Sam Carrico started with the School Age Child Care program shortly after college, and it peaked her interest in other careers serving children and families in our community. Work in child welfare was a logical next step for her.
After returning to school to get a MSW degree from George Mason University, Carrico worked for the city of Manassas handling child abuse and neglect investigations for five years. She joined the Fairfax County Department of Family Services nearly two years ago as the supervisor for the Sexual Abuse Unit within Child Protective Services.
Carrico is passionate about child welfare and working with children and families. In addition to her CPS experience, she loves interacting with the community by providing mandated reporter training. She is also the handler for Rylynn, DFS’s first facility dog who supports children and families served by CYF.
Sam Carrico is very excited to be leading the Volunteer and Partner Services team and to build relationships with everyone who makes this program so successful! Join us in welcoming her aboard.
