Fairfax Stands Ready: Are You? 

September is National Preparedness Month, and this year’s theme, “Fairfax Stands Ready,” reminds us that preparedness starts at home. Emergencies can happen anytime. Take a few simple steps now to prepare yourself, your family, and your community.

Four Ways to Get Prepared 

1. Make a Plan – Decide where you’ll go, how you’ll communicate, and where you’ll meet if you’re separated. Practice your plan with your household. 

2. Build an Emergency Kit – Stock food, water, medications, important documents, and other essentials to help you get through an emergency. 

3. Stay Informed – Sign up for Fairfax Alerts to receive emergency, severe weather, government closure, scam, and other important notifications. 

4. Get Involved – Volunteer through the Volunteer Emergency Team (VET) or connect your organization with the Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) network.
