DATA-INFORMED DECISION MAKING

Davis highlighted the importance of 2023 strategies to be more "data informed,” emphasizing the significance of leveraging data to make educated decisions in the Police Department. He also discussed the Police Department's new Threat Assessment Management (TAM) unit, which identifies individuals on a pathway to violence, underscoring the proactive approach to intervening in crises before they escalate.

The Police Department has demonstrated commendable efforts in partnering with trained clinicians on co-responder teams to mitigate issues at the scene and divert individuals needing higher levels of care. These initiatives underscore a forward-thinking and empathetic approach to community safety.

Butler echoed the importance of risk reduction, drawing attention to the community's needs and focusing on equitable provision of services, ensuring that regardless of where in the county individuals reside, they receive the support they require.

The Fire and Rescue Department's commitment to deploying resources judiciously, aided by data analytics, aims to tailor responses to specific needs, mitigating emergency medical service responses for instances that require alternative assistance.

INNOVATIVE WELLNESS PROGRAMS

Both Davis and Butler shared insights into the development of innovative wellness programs that prioritize the physical and mental well-being of their personnel.

Butler outlined the evolution of the "WellFit" program, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing occupational health, fitness and mental well-being for the first responders. WellFit is an industry-leading program designed to improve the physical health of all officers and civilian members of both departments.

Davis noted that the Police Department is actively working to strengthen mental, psychological and physical fitness, recognizing the impact these elements have on enhancing interactions in the community during times of crisis.
