Fairfax County residents are invited to participate in the Fairfax Center Area Planning Study ahead of public hearings this fall. Upcoming community meetings will provide an opportunity to help shape updated long-range plans intended to create a more vibrant, inclusive and well-planned Fairfax Center Area.
The Fairfax Center Area Planning Study is a decade-long effort with three phases. In 2023, the third phase began to review potential updates to the Comprehensive Plan for the Fairfax Center Area’s Core Area, which includes the Government Center, Fair Oaks Mall, Fairfax Corner, Fairfax Towne Center and the surrounding area of about 550 acres. The study has been guided by a task force of community members appointed by the Board of Supervisors and shaped by the public’s feedback and comments through community meetings, online polls and events over the past three years.
Upcoming community meetings include:
- Aug. 31, 7 p.m. - Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Conference Rooms 2/3
- Sept. 14, 7 p.m. - Zoom, www.bit.ly/FairfaxCenterArea
During each meeting, county staff will share proposed changes to the Comprehensive Plan, answer questions and listen to community comments. Feedback will help inform the final proposed changes to the Plan.
Public hearings will be held in person at the Government Center.
- Planning Commission: Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m.
- Board of Supervisors: Oct. 27, 4:30 p.m.
