Work Begins on Historic Affordable Housing Development at One University

The development of One University will quintuple the amount of affordable housing available – delivering 120 multifamily apartments and 120 independent living apartments for older adults.
One University is the nation’s first federally subsidized Rental Assistance Demonstration Program property to be approved for redevelopment and expansion.
The development represents a multi-faceted investment of local and federal resources including public land, revenue bonds, local Housing Blueprint funding and project-based vouchers.

Fairfax County leaders and a host of partners and community members celebrated the groundbreaking for the much-anticipated development of One University in Fairfax and adding another 240 apartments towards the county’s goal of producing a minimum of 5,000 new affordable homes by 2034.

The event also marked a significant national milestone in partnering with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to create a model process for similar federally subsidized properties to follow in preserving and expanding affordable housing options across the country.
