The Real Estate Tax System database is undergoing scheduled maintenance so that we can serve you better in the future. As a result, the ability to file administrative Real Estate assessment appeals ONLINE and to pay real estate taxes ONLINE/IVR has been temporarily suspended. However, all other methods to transact business remain available.

Alternatives to Online Filing of Administrative Real Estate Assessment Appeals
Administrative appeals may still be filed using our standard 2024 Real Estate Appeal Form.
Use this form if you believe that your real estate has been over-assessed in comparison with similar properties or in relation to fair market value and you wish to appeal to the Department of Tax Administration. Once the form is completed, you can submit it numerous ways:
- Scan your application and email it to DTAREDAppeals@fairfaxcounty.gov by 4:30 p.m. (EDT) on April 1, 2024. You will receive a confirmation email indicating your appeal was received.
- Mail it to Department of Tax Administration, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 357, Fairfax, VA 22035. Must be postmarked by April 1, 2024.
- Fax it to 703-324-4935 by 4:30 p.m. (EDT) on April 1, 2024.
- Drop it off in person to 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 357, Fairfax, VA 22035 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (EDT) by April 1, 2024.
The deadline for Real Estate assessment administrative appeals is April 1, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. (EDT) if submitting electronically, by email, or dropping off in person. If submitting by mail, it must be postmarked by April 1. Administrative appeals will not be accepted after this date.
