The goal of the Speed Camera Program is to change the behavior of drivers and make our roads saferSpeed cameras will improve the safety of our roads by protecting pedestrians and slowing down motorists, especially around congested and vulnerable locations.

Times of operation are listed below.

 

  1. Chesterbrook Elementary School: Kirby Road (8:20-9:05 a.m., 3:20-4:05 p.m.)
  2. Irving Middle School: Old Keene Mill Road (7-7:45 a.m., 2-2:45 p.m.)
  3. Key Middle School: Franconia Road (two cameras at this location, one in each direction) (7-8:15 a.m., 1:30-2:45 p.m.)
  4. London Towne Elementary School: Stone Road (7:50-8:35 a.m., 2:50-3:35 p.m)
  5. Sleepy Hollow Elementary School: Sleepy Hollow Road (8:15-9 a.m., 3:15-4 p.m.)
  6. South County Middle School and High School: Silverbrook Road (7-8:25 a.m., 2-3:25 p.m.)
  7. Terraset Elementary School/Hughes Middle School: Soapstone Drive (7-8:25 a.m., 2-3:55 p.m.)
  8. South Lakes High School: Soapstone Drive (8:50-9:35 a.m., 3:50-4:35 p.m.)
  9. West Springfield High School: Rolling Road (7:40-8:25 a.m., 2:40-3:25 p.m.)
  10. Oakton High School: Blake Lane (7:40-8:20 a.m., 2:25-3:25 p.m.)

 

The 30-day warning period began July 2 for the schools below, and citations begin Aug. 18.  

  1. Cardinal Forest Elementary School: Forrester Boulevard (8:40-9:25 a.m., 3:40-4:25 p.m.)
  2. Mount Vernon High School/Riverside Elementary School (Shared): Old Mt. Vernon Road (7:40-9:20 a.m., 2:40-4:20 p.m.)
  3. Belvedere Elementary School: Columbia Pike (8:50-9:35 a.m., 3:50-4:35 p.m.)

 

Work Zone Cameras

Work zone cameras are installed along a stretch of Fairfax County Parkway between Popes Head Road and Burke Center Parkway. Violators will be subject to fines up to $100, sent in the mail.

Fines

There are no points or insurance impacts resulting from a citation. An escalating fine structure that maxes out at $100:

  • $50 for 10-14 mph over limit.
  • $75 for 15-19 mph over limit.
  • $100 for 20 mph or more over limit.
