Non-venomous snakes:

  • Central ratsnake
  • Common ribbon snake
  • Dekay’s brown snake
  • Eastern garter snake
  • Eastern hognose snake
  • Eastern kingsnake
  • Eastern milksnake
  • Eastern smooth earthsnake
  • Eastern worm snake
  • Northern black racer
  • Northern mole kingsnake
  • Northern red-bellied snake
  • Northern ring-necked snake
  • Northern rough green snake
  • Northern water snake
  • Queen snake
  • Red corn snake

Venomous Snakes:

  • Eastern Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortix)
  • Timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus)*
     

*NOTE: Unlikely to occur - No credible reports, sightings or specimens from Fairfax County in recent history. Timber rattlesnakes require hibernaculum habitat to survive each winter.  The closest suitable habitat is along Bull Run Mountain in western Prince William County.
