If your pet went missing, would you know what to do?
In May, Maya escaped the yard through a hole in the fence. She had no collar, no microchip, and no idea how to get back home. Her family searched the entire neighborhood, desperate to find their best friend.
One of our Animal Services Officers found Maya, but with no identification, they were unable to locate her family and brought her to our Michael R. Frey Campus. As Maya’s family continued to search for her, she waited out her stray hold. The day before she was set to go up for adoption, her family finally found her!
A neighbor recognized Maya from our weekly stray animals post and immediately contacted her family. Their fear and worry quickly melted away once they had their best friend back, and Maya, who was shy and anxious at the shelter, quickly nestled into her owners’ arms. Maya left the shelter spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and now with an annual county dog license.
Every week, dozens of pets just like Maya walk through our doors with no identification and no clear way home. Help protect your pet by taking the following steps:
- Collar and tag: make sure your pet’s collar is secure and their tag information is up to date.
- Microchip: microchips are the most reliable way to help your pet find their way home. Visit our bi-monthly vaccine and microchip clinics to have your pet microchipped.
- Lost report: file a lost report with us online so we can help you search.
