Renovation and Campus Closure Updates

Starting August 31, 2026, the Michael R. Frey Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax, VA 22030) will be temporarily closed for renovation for six months. All our services will continue to operate from our Lorton campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton, VA 22079).

If it is during open hours, call us at 703-324-0299 so we can help determine next steps. If the animal is found after hours, please call the Fairfax County non-emergency line at 703-691-2131. If you are able to temporarily care for the animal, we recommend checking out our Found Stray Animal page. 

The Michael R. Frey Campus is temporarily closed beginning September 2026 for important HVAC system updates and building improvements. These upgrades are necessary to maintain safe, comfortable, and reliable conditions for animals, staff, and visitors. The closure is expected to last approximately six months. We will share updates as soon as more information becomes available.

The closure is anticipated to last approximately six months starting in August 31, 2026.

Our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton, VA 22079) hours and services will remain unchanged. To view available pets and plan your visit, please check our Adoption page. 

Hours and services at the Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton, VA 22079) will remain the same. Closed Monday, 12-5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 12-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Animals housed at the Michael R. Frey Campus will be relocated to our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton, VA 22079) so they may continue receiving full and uninterrupted care. 

No. Our Field Services team will continue operating as usual throughout the closure. Response and support in the community will not be affected. Please call the Fairfax County non-emergency line at 703-691-2131. 

Pet Pantry requests may be submitted for pickup at our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton, VA 22079) during the renovation. To submit a request, visit our Pet Resource Center page. 

We’re sorry to hear you’re surrendering your pet.  We accept animal surrenders by appointment only. Please visit our Surrendering Your Pet page to get started. 

No. Vaccine and microchip clinics will continue at their usual locations. Upcoming clinic dates and locations are listed on our Events page. 

Donations can be dropped off at our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton, VA 22079). Please check our Donations page for current needs and drop off guidance. 

You can help by adopting from our Lorton Campus, fostering a shelter pet, learning how to assist if you encounter a stray animal, or sharing information about our adoptable pets with your community. Visit our Get Involved page to get started. 

Not at the moment. We aren’t recruiting new volunteers right now, but our foster program is still active. If you’re interested in getting involved, please visit our Events page for upcoming information sessions.
