Wildlife Resources and Announcements

Fairfax County Animal Services (FCAS) helps residents safely and responsibly navigate encounters with wild animals by providing clear guidance, resources, and timely announcements. Our Animal Services Officers are trained in humane wildlife response and work closely with licensed rehabilitators and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources when intervention is needed for sick, injured, orphaned, or confined wildlife.


On this page, you’ll find trusted wildlife partner links, information on when and whom to call, and seasonal updates to help you understand when to observe wildlife from a distance and when to seek assistance. These resources support safe coexistence with local wildlife throughout Fairfax County.

It is completely natural to feel concerned when you see a baby animal alone, but in most cases the animal is healthy and its parents are still caring for it.

Knowing what to look for can help you decide when a young animal needs help and when it is best to leave it alone.
