Did you know that domestic violence and animal abuse are often connected? And that sometimes, pet owners are reluctant to leave a bad situation because of the uncertainty about what will happen to their pets?
Our PetHaven Program offers an option for short-term temporary care for pets whose owners need to get out of a bad situation. No questions, no advance notice, full discretion. We're just here to offer a safe place for pets, quickly, so Fairfax County residents seeking safety for themselves have the peace of mind to know their pets are safe, too.
If you or someone you know needs to utilize our PetHaven Program, you can email us at AnimalServices@fairfaxcounty.gov, call us at 703-830-1100, or just come on in with the pets who you'd like us to care for while you get to a safe place. We'll provide food, veterinary care and spay/neuter services, and supplies. And if you need to rehome your pet, we can help with that too.
Note: To ensure the health and safety of our shelter animals, we require all animals entering the shelter be up to date on their vaccinations and be spayed/neutered. All animals entering the shelter will be given vaccinations unless previous records are provided at time of intake. For dogs, this will include a rabies, DHLPP ,and Bordetella vaccines. For cats, this will include a rabies vaccination and FVRCP vaccine. If pets require vaccinations or spay/neuter, those services will be provided free of charge.
