3-25: COVID-19 Update | To the Fairfax County Community,
Every day, my office receives a significant amount of emails regarding COVID-19, many of them asking how they can help others in this time of need. There weren't a lot of state and County changes today, so I thought it was worth highlighting the number of ways you can donate and volunteer.
See below for the full March 25 edition. For more County updates and resources click here. If you have a friend who would like to sign up for this newsletter, they can do so here.

Board Overview: COVID-19 actions | Yesterday the Board met with an altered agenda. We voted on Administrative and Action Items, but did not include presentations and Board Matters in this meeting. We also met in a different space to accommodate social distancing. After almost 13 years on the Board, it was surreal to not be in the Board auditorium and have the staff scattered down the hall to watch from other rooms. As I always do with my overviews of the Board Meeting, I will detail what was approved yesterday, so you are best informed about what is happening in Fairfax County. I will still be sending out a newsletter tonight with County updates on COVID-19. Yesterdays email overview is here and the link to my website with County updates and resources is here. Key Takeaways: 1. The Board adopted an electronic communication policy. 2. The Board extended deadlines for Personal Property Taxes and Real Estate Taxes. 3. The Board authorized a public hearing to consider adopting a 4% Admissions Tax. 4. The Board authorized a public hearing to amend spending levels in the FY 2020 Revised Budget plan. 5. The Board made authorized loan for affordable senior housing in Reston. 6. The Board supported relocating an overhead transmission line underground in Tysons. The full agenda is available for your review here and the video of the meeting is here. |

3-16: Update on COVID-19 in Fairfax County | To the Fairfax County Community,
Today I had the opportunity to stop by the Health Department to see the excellent work of our response teams answering the questions of residents. In the last week, 17,000 people signed up for the County’s text notifications and separately, the call center received 265 calls this morning.
There is a lot of new information below , so please read carefully. Also, if you have a friend who would like to sign up for this newsletter, they can do so here .

3-17: Update on COVID-19 in Fairfax County | To the Fairfax County Community,
This morning, the Board met in an emergency session to approve a local Declaration of Emergency. The Governor of Virginia also updated guidelines for Virginians. I will detail what all of this means below.
There are two important points I want to note here. First, Governor Northam is recommending that those with chronic health conditions or aged 65 or older self-quarantine because of their increased risk for illness. Check in with your families and neighbors if you are able. Second, the County is working on how we can help our other vulnerable populations. Health and Human Services, for example, is working on how to help our homeless population and the Sheriff’s Office is working to temporarily suspend home evictions.
There is also a lot of new information below, so please read carefully. If you have a friend who would like to sign up for this newsletter, they can do so here.

3-18: Update on COVID-19 in Fairfax County | To the Fairfax County Community,
Almost 40% of our residents speak a language other than English at home. The fluidity of our current situation has made it difficult to ensure everyone in the County is receiving the most up-to-date information. That ability shouldn't be impacted by the language you speak. That's why the County's COVID-19 website (along with every other page on the website) and the emergency blog can be translated. The County's site in particular can be translated in 160 languages. The two pictures below show how to do that.
There is also a lot of new information below, so please read carefully. If you have a friend who would like to sign up for this newsletter, they can do so here.

3-19: Update on COVID-19 in Fairfax County | To the Fairfax County Community,
Today, public health officials noted evidence of community transmission of the COVID-19 coronavirus in parts of Northern Virginia. Guidance remains the same however: wash your hands; stay home when sick; avoid close contact with those who are sick; cover coughs and sneezes; maintain at least six feet of personal space whenever possible; avoid crowded areas and non-essential travel if you are over age 65 or have a chronic medical condition.
We recognize there has been much confusion and frustration on the topic of COVID-19 testing. That's why the Fairfax County Health Department created a new site to help explain the role of the Health Department and share the latest information we are receiving from the health care providers. Also, Governor Northam announced today that Virginia is developing its own test that would avoid back orders from the CDC reagents.

3-20: Update on COVID-19 in Fairfax County | To the Fairfax County Community,
We recognize that there are concerns about the national shortage of tests available for residents. Fairfax County is working with our trusted community partner, Inova, to maximize the health care services available for our community during the evolving COVID-19 situation.
Inova has contracted with multiple commercial labs to provide increased testing to patients when they meet the testing criteria. They are also pursuing additional options to provide in house testing capabilities in the coming weeks.
We collectively have an enormous responsibility to ensure our community remains prepared during this COVID-19 pandemic. We are working closely with our regional health care partners to accommodate additional capacity, should the need arise.
There is a lot of new information below, so please read carefully. If you have a friend who would like to sign up for this newsletter, they can do so here.

3-21: Update on COVID-19 in Fairfax County | To the Fairfax County Community,
I am deeply saddened to hear of the first death due to coronavirus in Fairfax County. My thoughts are with the resident's family and those who knew him. This is a difficult time for everyone. You don't have to be sick or know someone who is sick to be grieving.
The health of Fairfax County residents is my number one priority and we are doing everything we can to contain this virus. But it is the responsibility of every person, to keep each other safe and healthy.
Our health officials, first responders, Board of Supervisors, and County staff are working closely with the community to keep everyone informed. There is a great amount of misinformation, but having the best information and following the guidelines of our health departments is essential.
There is not a lot of new information in regards to changes in County or state services today, but much has developed this week, so please read carefully. If you have a friend who would like to sign up for this newsletter, they can do so here.

3-22: Update on COVID-19 in Fairfax County | To the Fairfax County Community,
Tomorrow I will be sending a letter to President Trump, along with other leaders in our region, requesting that he add the National Capital Region as a priority location for federal-supported COVID-19 testing. As I said earlier this week, I understand your frustrations on the topic of testing. We are working with our local partners, like Inova, on ways to expand this capacity. Prioritizing Fairfax County as a member of the National Capital Region for increased testing is another way to achieve this.
There is not a lot of new information in regards to changes in County or state services today, but much has developed this week, so please read carefully.
Starting tomorrow, much of this information will continue to be on this website, with newer developments sent via the newsletter. If you have a friend who would like to sign up for this newsletter, they can do so here.
